I arrived at the store and was directed to
the lady responsible for “handling” returns. I noticed immediately how high her
seat was. She was like a mile above me, which forced me and other people I’m
sure to have to look up in order to speak to her, I’m now wondering if it was
deliberate. So I presented my case but despite my best efforts she repeated,
“sir...we need a receipt”, “sir...we need a receipt.” I mean it was like a
scratched CD or something (nobody remembers what broken records are so I can’t
use that). I didn’t have a case because this “sir” didn’t have a receipt and
she was clearly not in a mood for doing any favours so I accepted my fate and
moved on.
I was still in the store looking around
killing some time when I saw two store attendants pointing at me. One of them said, “sir...could you come with
us please”. I replied “sure” but in my mind I thinking “A wah mi do now? This
returns thing serious bad”
They brought me to another more mature
looking lady, you could tell by how the staff behaved that she was the big
boss. She said “Hello, where is the bag?” I was thinking again “A wonda if dem
people believe mi tief dem bag?” Anyways I said “it’s in the baggage area”.
“Go for it let me have a look at it” was
her calm response.
I quickly went and fetched it hoping this
would prove my innocence and clear up any misunderstandings that may have
occurred. By this time the other staff had left.
She took it from me and said “You know I
bought one of them and had the very same problem? Let’s go and look at some more
bags, maybe you will find another one that you like”
The boss lady and I went to the bag
section and literally rummaged through all the bags there.
Finally, after all the looking and
laughing, I found one that looked good.
“That one is a bit more expensive” she
said in a reserved tone “luckily it’s on a sale so you get it for $200 less
than the one you bought”
“OMG!” I was started to see that this was
going to be better than I hoped.
Long story short, I got another bag, I
had enough money back to buy 2 beautiful cups and still had $20 change!
